Abstain from all appearance of evil.

Lately, my husband and I have been thinking alot about how there are many subtle things in our lives that can easily become part of our lives and we don't know that they have bad roots or don't realize that they are having a bad influence. So, I am trying to do some "research" and am hoping to start writing about a few of these topics that my husband and I have been discussing. They may not be the easiest to approach, but I think they would be good to get us thinking about all these things that are going on around us.

If I hit on something that you do or watch or read, don't think I'm trying to "step on your toes", but am just wanting you to think about WHAT these things really stand for.

Prove all things; hold fast to that which is good.
Abstain from all appearance of evil.
1 Thessalonians 5:21-22

So keep watching, I'm not sure how long my "research" will take, but these topics WILL be coming. I'm not going into super deep "research" just finding a few summaries and such on the internet and seeing if my feelings from what little I've heard of books/movies and such are correct. Then I'm going from there.

James 1:2-3

My best friend from high school came to visit last week and made and gave to me anencouragement/verse jar. I LOVE it! I have decided to not only pull out a verse once a day or whenever I need a little lifting up from the Lord's Word, but last night I pulled one out and decided that I am going to memorize this verse. James 1:2-3 happened to be the verse I pulled out. It is SO appropriate for me right now! I'm not "joyful" in my trials yet, but I'm SLOWLY learning to trust God and His plan in every part of my life. I have not arrived at this point, but I feel that I am make great leaps and bounds toward getting there. I do see, how trials test my faith and help me to persevere in the faith. I can see how different times in my life, that were not good points of my life, brought me to where I am today. I see how God used those things to do His will. That is why I have to trust that even when I don't understand WHY God is doing certain things in my life, that He is in control and He knows what the plan is and He will work it out in the end! Isn't that one of the beautiful things about trusting God, NO matter what happens, God makes sure we win in the end!!!

So, as I'm memorizing this verse, it is helping remind me that going through the "tough days" is just a part of God's plan and that it is strengthening my faith!

Calm My Anxious Heart-3

I have been sharing some of my favorite parts of the Calm My Anxious Heart devotion book, I have been going through. Yesterday at the end of chapter 5, Linda Dillow told a story about a time when she lived in Poland. They lived in a nice home in the Communist led Poland-ers eyes, but to Linda's American eyes, it was nothing special. They had a pregnant young woman and her young daughter stay with them for 2 days because they had no home. They had "lived like gypies during the three years I'd known them" Dillow said. They had moved from the husbands family's home to the young woman's family's home and now that they were having another child they still did not have a home of their own. (this was because of the Communist conditions in the country) Anyway, Linda Dillow goes on to explain that as she took the young woman through her house, she just commented on how nice and lovely it was, but was not in any way envyous. After they had dinner, the young woman said she needed to go wash out her daughters diapers. Of course Linda told her that she had a washer and dryer and that she should by all means use those. The young woman simply replied that she was used to doing it by hand and it wasn't a problem. After the daughter was asleep, Linda sat down and talked with the young woman and asked the question that had been bothering her all day. "When you see all the modern conveniences here for mothers of small children-washing machines, disposable diapers, baby food in jars-how do you feel? Life in Poland is so much more difficult!" The young woman replied, "Linda, when I lived here in the West, I observed Western women. They have so many things that they don't need God".  (my own summary, taken from page 84 of Calm My Anxious Heart)

Now I don't know about you, but I can look all around me and see many, MANY examples of just that. There are so many people caught up in their tv shows, the latest fashion trends, their kids sports games, or their jobs,  just to name a few; that they often don't have time for God. We have the internet at our fingertips any time of the day or night, we can access ALL kinds of information and media WHENEVER we want to and this many times takes precious time that we could spend with God and wastes it on things that in the end are NOT GOING TO MATTER! Let's be sure to not get caught up in all the THINGS that we have that we don't NEED God. Because it is becoming more and more real to me, just how much I NEED God on a daily basis.

For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps.

Just to have this out there: I have not been paid to give these "reviews" of this book, I just enjoyed it so much when I went through it two years ago that I decided to go through it again and I am not disappointed this time around either! I just want to pass along a good book when I find one, so that is what I am setting out to do!

Spring time has come!

I am very excited! The weather is getting nicer all the time, my yard is greening up and I have little garden plants starting to grow! I love spring, absolutely LOVE it! Yesterday was a nice Sunday and once Pumpkin woke up from his nap, we decided to take a trip down to the local lake (it's not very big, but still fun). My husband took his canoe and we just got Pumpkin a life jacket, so he got to go for his first canoe ride! He LOVED it. Daddy even let him "paddle" after a little while. I took a quick picture of the sunset last night. It was such a gorgeous, calm evening and this picture at least somewhat captures how beautiful it was.

I also have to mention, I am sorry for the lack of posting last week. We had a crazy, but GREAT week. Tuesday we went with my Mom to get some chickens and ducks (I'll have to show you sometime), Thursday evening my best friend from high school came to visit, on Friday we went to meet another one of our high school friends; who recently moved back to the "area" at this cute little coffee shop, on Saturday we met my Dad's side of the family for lunch and time at the park, and Sunday was church and a carry-in dinner and then of course we went to the lake in the evening! It was a wonderful, but full and busy week!!!

A GREAT business

Today I want to share with you a place that goes above and beyond in the realm of customer service. Since I had Pumpkin, a little over 2 years ago, I have been used to order diapers and from time to time other things. I have ALWAYS had good experiences with them and just this week has been another. I think it was Monday when I ordered a BIG box of diapers from them and like always, I received it on Tuesday (I'm not sure they have next day delivery EVERYWHERE, but for me they just ship it across the state...). When I opened up the shipping box and pulled out the diaper box, I saw that they said size 3. Well I don't remember how long ago it was that Pumpkin wore size 3 diapers, but it was awhile ago. He's been in size 4 for quite some time now. Anyway, when I saw the problem, I quickly got on the internet to check out what my order had said....sure enough, I had hit the WRONG button and ordered size 3. So I was very unexcited about starting the return/exchange process since just a couple months ago I decided to order diapers from a different retailer (a very well known one that I won't mention just to be nice) and they shipped me the WRONG BRAND of diapers (their fault, not mine) and the return/exchange process was not exactly SMOOTH. But I knew I had to do something because I just couldn't bring myself to SQUEEZE Pumpkin into the too small diapers, until the BIG box was gone or he gets potty trained.....(which seems like its taking a LONG, LONG time). So, I e-mailed and asked if I could return them and what the process would be since the mistake was MY fault. They promptly e-mailed me back saying that I could return them and they sent me a separate e-mail with a pre-paid shipping label. All I had to do was print out the shipping label and get the box to a UPS drop-off or given to a UPS driver. THEN, once they saw that UPS was in possession of the box, they would send the size 4 diapers! WHAT? No hoops to jump through? No paying for shipping? And no having to re-order diapers??? This is once AGAIN why I LOVE this company. This is not the first time they have gone above and beyond to make me happy, even if it wasn't THEIR fault! This is just NORMAL procedure for them! SO, if you have a baby, GO to this site and get practically ANYTHING you need for a baby. IF you don't they have sister sites such as (for personal care type products), (for your four legged friends), (for toys and games), (for all things beauty) and (which is for all your home needs). So GO, RUN, TYPE as quickly as you can if you want to support a business that knows what CUSTOMER SERVICE really MEANS!

ABC Scripture Cards

A while back I found this great idea on Pinterest here: . I have finally gotten around to finish it! It's GREAT!

This is what I used to teach my son Joshua 24:15. I had the verses printed out, but hadn't had them laminated yet.

First you will need to go to the above link and print out the verses. There are two different options, I chose the one where you print them front and back. This uses 4 sheets of paper (I think I remember that right).

Then, if you chose, you will want to get some contact paper and laminate them.

Here I am in the process. This was WAY easier than I thought it would be!

TA-DA! See it worked...and I didn't mess it up!

Then you will need to cut them into cards.

Then punch the hole in the corner.

The name of these little metal thingys has slipped me now, but you just need to fish it through all the holes in the cards!

And there it is, a cover is included and then a verse using every letter of the alphabet!

I'm loving this! What a great idea! I had all the supplies on had, except for the contact paper. Hence the reason I JUST got them laminated! *wink*

Since it has been feeling more like spring (or even summer some days) this past week, I was delighted to see that the seeds I started are starting to grow into tiny plants! Today is not nearly as warm, but I'm still excited for spring time and getting my garden plants and flowers growing.

This it my pumpkin...only one came up, so I think I may have to plant a couple more seeds.

I've also started some herbs that so far have not come up, so I may have to try them again. I did only plant this the middle of the week, but we'll see. I also forgot I wanted to start another type of tomato, that is a shorter season hybrid. So I will have to get that done!

Hiding the word in your heart

"I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you." Psalm 119:11

We all know it is good to memorize scripture, but if you're like me, you haven't done so well with it. I was home schooled and we had a Bible class everyday. Part of that class was memorizing whole passages of scripture for tests/quizzes. I did it, but I struggled with it. Now I have a child of my own and I want to teach him Bible verses. About 2-3 weeks ago, we started working on Joshua 24:15. We didn't work super hard on it, but a few mornings a week we'd go over it. Well, he's to the point now that he can start the verse by himself and tell me most words (the main one's anyway) without me helping him. He can even tell me the reference! (in his little voice that can't pronounce all the words right! *I melt*) Like I said, we didn't work super hard on it and it's been around 2ish weeks. He is TWO years does this make me feel?? (I feel good that I now know Joshua 24:15 *wink*) Not so good that my 2 year old can pretty well have the basics down with such a small amount of time invested and I have such a hard time memorizing something that would be a little more my age level! I'm certain that if we had worked on it harder and more consistently, he would have learned it a lot sooner. So why is it so hard for me??? This is making me think about how I need to be working on memorizing God's word. I need to hide it in my heart! So let's take a lesson from a two year old and get to hiding those special words in our hearts!

Arguing with God?

I was reading through my Calm My Anxious Heart, Bible study today and it was talking about being content with "me". It pointed out that when we start picking out things about ourselves that we don't like, that we are in reality, arguing with God. Now I often wish I could get rid of my love handles or that I had solid 6-pack abs and I do try to workout in order to get there. Am I arguing with God?? I need to make sure that I'm not doing my workouts because I don't look like the actress on the movie I just watched or the bikini model that popped up on tv. I need to make my focus of my workouts about taking care of the body that God gave me, not "improving" what God gave me. We can never "improve" what God has done, but yet we don't want to just let it get out of control either. So for this week, I'm going to try to focus on working out in order to take care of the body God gave me and think of it as "up keep" for my temple!

New Bed Set!!

I'm on the saving money topic today again, so today I'm going to show you the bedding set that I feel like I got a good deal on! I've been wanting to get a new comforter for our bedroom, just wanting to change it up a bit. When I saw that a local store (Alco, basically a mini Wal-mart) was having a 30% off bedding sale, I was totally on it!

The price tag said $39.99 and it was on a 30% off sale. So I ended up paying $27.99 for the set!! It included the comforter, 2 shams, a bed skirt, and a sheet set. (I was excited about the skirt and shams since I didn't have shams before and the skirt I had would have just so not matched, but the sheet set; which I have not put on yet; looks kind of cheap at first glance...oh well, I Love everything else!) So here it is:

Here it is...I LOVE it!!! I had the throw pillows from before and am still trying to decide if they work...

Outlet Malls-LOVE

I think I'm ready to jump back in and get to blogging on a daily basis again...or at least every other day. As I mentioned last week, we went on a family trip with (some of) my family this past weekend. We went to a ski resort and some of us snowboarded while others skied. The girls went shopping on Sunday afternoon, we couldn't resist,  they were outlet stores after all!  So I thought I'd show you some of my DEALS! Like I said, they were outlet stores, so they typically have good prices. Of course some things that weren't on sale were still priced higher than I would want to pay, but I kept my eye out for good prices and came home with some good stuff! I'm pretty excited!

Ok, so this is what I got at Aeropostale. The yellow shirt was originally $12.00, but was on sale for $7.99. The gray cardigan was originally $44.50, but on sale for $15.00. The pants were originally $39.50, but were on sale for $12.00. Then not pictured, my mom bought a pair of pants that were the same price and a shirt that was the same price as my yellow shirt, because I had a coupon for $10.00 of a purchase of $50.00 and I was just short of $50, so we just paid for our stuff together. After sales and the coupon we paid $48.48. Before sales and the coupon, we would have paid $94.50!!! Not too bad...almost 50% savings!!! YIPEE!

I bought this shirt at the Nike store. The original price was $20.00, but it was on sale for $4.97. With tax, I ended up paying $5.36. I saved $14.64!!! WOOHOO!!!

Here is what I got at OshKosh for little Pumpkin. Now I thought my receipt had what I saved on it, but it doesn't and I already threw the tags away to put these in the wash, but I know this was not an amazing deal. I splurged because the cute little PJ's my Mom found and they just had to become Pumpkin's. The button up shirt, I wanted to get for Easter, I think was around $20.00 and it was on sale for $12.00. The PJ's, I cannot remember how much they were originally, but they were on sale and I paid $15.00. Like I said, not the best deal and I did pay more than I normally would for the PJ's, but when I show you an up close picture, I think you'll understand! (I love to save money and try to do so all the time, but I do splurge once in awhile too, it's one of my downfalls *wink*)

To some this may not look like anything worth "splurging" on, but Austin got his pilots license last year and now Pumpkin is "Daddy's little co-pilot" so this just fit! ;) My Mom saw it and said that Pumpkin "needed" it and well I guess I agreed! Isn't it just TOO CUTE?!?

This is what my sister saw as we were getting ready to leave Gap, I couldn't resist once I saw it was on 70% off sale! It was originally priced at $44.99 and I bought it for $13.50, plus tax it was $14.55! I saved $30.44!!! KA-CHING!!!!

I LOVE saving money!!!! Like I said, sometimes I DO splurge (only if I don't feel it's TOO OVERPRICED) and sometimes if there is something we really need and it's not on sale, I will pay full price. That just happens sometimes. But I do try to save money whenever I can, so that when I do feel like splurging or when we do need something that's not on sale, it isn't quite as big of a deal! Hope you enjoyed a look at my savings, if you have access to an outlet mall or vacation near one sometime, be sure to go! It is worth it!!!

"Husbands, love your wives"

So I've been thinking about how good it is to have a good husband. I know some women who I can't imagine living with their husbands (not that I want to live with anyone, but my husband). Whenever I'm around these people, I usually notice something that if that was how my husband acted, I would probably be on the brink of depression. Maybe he's (the husband) constantly saying that she (the wife) needs to do something faster, or better, or take care of the kids better. But he never DOES anything about it to help, he just "barks" different "orders" at the wife. Now, yes, perhaps the wife is partly to blame. Maybe if she were treating him differently it would be better (I of course don't know every detail of their personal home life, so I don't know where this all is stemming from). But this all leads me to say, God commands husbands to love their wives.

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it. Ephesians 5:25
Husbands, love [your] wives, and be not bitter against them. Colossians 3:19

 Now I'm sure in the above example, that these couples "love" each other, but isn't there so much more to "love" than feeling all "melty" when you're alone with that person? It seems that many times the focus is on the woman to submit to her husband and be a keeper of her home. And I full-heartedly believe in those things and strive to do my best in them, but men need to have the same kind of love that Christ has for us, toward his wife. (yes, men are just human beings so they WILL not and CAN not accomplish this all the time) But they can strive for it.

If you have a husband who loves and cares for you, as Christ cares and loves His church, then count yourself completely blessed and be sure to treat your husband with the same love and care. Pray and thank God daily for this man that He has brought into your life and given to you to be yours for the rest of your life.

If you have a husband who could use some work, how about you take a look at how your treating him. Would a few encouraging words soften his "barks" toward you? Would a quick shoulder rub at the end of the day give him a bit more "energy" to go try to break up the fight between then kids, instead of "ordering" you to? I'm not saying that these simple gestures are going to turn your marriage around, but have you ever taken a look at WHAT your doing? It may not have anything to do with you, but I have noticed that when I'm having a "bad" day and I'm getting a little "barky" at my husband, he may not be quite the same husband I'm used to. We have a big effect on our husbands. Also, pray for your husband. Ask God to work in his life and in yours. There are many factors that could play into how spouses treat spouses, so maybe you just need to talk about things. Maybe if you took some time out just to spend together that would help or maybe work schedules just get everybody so tired that when your together all that's left is exhausted, grouchy people. Just remember that God should be the center of everything in your life, including your marriage.

Calm My Anxious Heart by Linda Dillow

This is a great Bible study/book. There is a 12-week Bible study included in the book and it says its A woman's guide to finding contentment. I first did this study with a group of women from church, a couple years ago, but I thought it would be a good idea to through it really was THAT good!

This morning, I just started reading chapter one and it was telling about a woman who had eternal perspective. Dillow added in Webster's definition of perspective. "Looking trhough; seeing clearly; the capacity to view things in their true relation of relative importance." (pg. 12) This woman had this perspective while working as a missionary with pygmies in Africa, with her family. She didn't have all the "conviences" we enjoy. No electricty meant no air conditioning in a region where the thermometer maxed out at 120 degrees! It went on to tell how this woman's daughter found the key to her mother's contentment in an old diary:

            *Never allow yourself to complain about anything-not even the weather.
            *Never picture yourself in any other circumstances or someplace else.
            *Never compare you lot with another's.
            *Never allow yourself to wish this or that had been otherwise.
            *Never dwell on tomorrow-remember that [tomorrow] is God's not ours.

Now what if we all tried to live our lives according to those 5 points? How often do I complain about the weather??? MANY times in the past couple days...if you've never experienced the Kansas wind, you won't understand, but on Tuesday it was a day of true Kansas wind. Maybe that's still not an excuss to complain, but if there ever was one, that would be it! ~wink~ How many times do I compare myself to another??? I typically feel I do well on this one, but to be honest, I'm not ALL the time...who is? And right now, I've been dwelling on "tomorrow" alot. (example-if this would happen, it would be like this by this time)...I know, I know ALOT of "THISes"! I shouldn't be dwelling on what will or would happen if something would happen this way, if it hasn't happened that way. God may have other plans and I need to trust in Him to make all my "tomorrows" what He wants them to be. Anyway, although I've done this study before and I'm only half way through the first chapter, I see many areas where I can still improve!

I would highly recommend getting this study book, Calm My Anxious Heart by Linda Dillow. Even though I pulled out a summary of a couple of pages, there are so many more things to read and learn from in this book. I by no means gave it all away. If you've been looking for a good study to do, that will pertain to every aspect of you're life then GO GET THIS BOOK!!! It truly is one of the best studies I've done! If you already have it, I encourage you to dig it out and take another look at it.
